Law & Order: SVU — that's Special Victims Unit for long — has been running for 24 seasons, and shows no signs of slowing down. In April 2023, NBC renewed the crime drama for Season 25 alongside Law & Order, Law & Order: Organized Crime and the One Chicago franchise.

While we know this cultural institution will be back for another season, many details have not been set yet. But let's take a look at what we do know about Season 25 so far (and be sure to bookmark this page, since we'll update this post as new information comes along).

THE DETAILS: Law & Order: Special Victims Unit is slated for its typical premiere date in the fall; for context, the Season 24 premiere aired on September 22, 2022. That said, it's likely that the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike will lead to the premiere being postponed. Organized Crime is already slated for 2024. We'll update when more information becomes available.

In a statement when his shows were renewed, creator and patriarch of the Law & Order universe Dick Wolf said, “I’m pleased to continue my four-decade relationship with Universal Television and NBC. All six shows being picked up again is the ultimate accolade to our incredible casts, producers, and writers. I'd also like to thank our loyal fans who have kept our NBC shows on the air for what will be a cumulative 84 seasons.”

THE DETAILS: SVU fans know the drill by now. Each season typically features a mix of procedurals that change week to week, as well as a few overarching storylines that carry throughout the season or, potentially, into the next. A big factor in Season 24 was Elliot Stabler, Olivia’s former partner played by Christopher Meloni, who now appears on SVU as a guest star during crossovers with Law & Order: Organized Crime. This presents a new conflict for Olivia as a romantic spark arises between the two.

Season 24 ended on a cliffhanger. Olivia, Elliot and the squad work together to try and bring down a crime-for-hire website... only for Elliot and Olivia to become high-priced targets on the site's hit list just as the season ends. Season 25 will pick up from there.
